Anticipation for Lucky Shops!
I recently was asked to be one of the blogger correspondents for Lucky Magazine’s Lucky Shops VIP night on the red carpet!! So stay tuned for more exclusives ;) Some of you may know that Lucky Magazine hosts this amazing event every year, where shoppers can shop from dozens of designers at spectacular prices (up to 70% off designer prices!). This year, it will be held on November 4-6, and for the first time, it will be held at the Highline Stages. (It previously has been held at the Metropolitan Pavillion). You can buy tickets now on the website, ranging in prices from about $16-$150, depending on whether you’d like general admission or to attend the VIP charity shopping party. Just to give you a sneak peek, let me introduce you to designer Michael Spirito. He’s a NYC jewelry designer that celebrities such as Cher, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Beyonce, etc. have worn pieces from. His jewelry are all handcrafted from sketch to setting of the stones & polishing.

For verification, you only needed to look at the wallat the opening party on Saturday night, clips from the ten films screened on a loop. Of course, it’s not only film fashion at the new space. Dresses from Vena Cava, capes from Ten Over Six’s in-house line, and embellished footwear made in collaboration with NYC jewelry line du jour Anndra Neen are all on offer, too. And, tucked away behind a semi-transparent partition is Cunningham and Lee’s work/design space. As they say in Hollywood, it’s where the magic happens. Paris Hilton on Neighbor Charlie Sheen & BFF Brooke Mueller: “Better as Friends”
But it just wasn’t an engagement ring. “We were looking at jewelry and I got a beautiful diamond ring as a gift,” she told me of their NYC jewelry store trip. That doesn’t mean she hasn’t dropped hints about what kind of ringfinger bling she’d like. “I haven’t said exactly what I like, but he knows that I love big diamonds,” she told me. I asked if she would say yes if Cy got down on one knee today. “We’re so happy so I really can’t see myself with anyone else. So I think we’re gonna live happily ever after,” she told me. Inside the fete at Sunset Tower, Mila Kunis was flying solo, smoking on the patio and chatting up Hayden Panettiere Just down the street, Soho House was another hot spot, where lots of Hollywood’s hottest men were in attendance. Leonardo DiCaprio held a table on the patio with Kevin Connolly while new dad (and possible Oscar winner this weekend) Javier Bardem celebrated Biutiful downstairs.

Ivanka Trump’s Crazy Stalker Denied Bail, Blames Aliens For Obsession
Justin Massler , Ivanka Trump s stalker, was denied bail in a Manhattan court yesterday after being extradited from L.A for the trial. The assistant DA Lucrece Francois revealed some pretty scary facts about him to the overseeing judge. She said that Massler had, threatened to track the victim overseas to escape the court’s jurisdiction and that he would go down in a hail of gunfire rather than surrender to authorities. The alleged stalker, who is from Nevada, told officials his address was a volcano in Hawaii. We’re hoping that Ivanka feels safer now that he’s still in custody. She doesn’t need this kind of stress, especially when pregnant! Massler was arrested last month for missing two court cases in Manhattan that stemmed from his alleged stalking of Ivanka. He was previously charged with stalking and harassing Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner , by sending them weirdo messages and threatening to kill himself in her NYC jewelry store.

Despite Religious Persecution = A Modern Day Story of Christian Faith & Courage
At one point, Mrs Chaplin asked whether she could pin her cross to her uniform to test whether it was the cross or chain which was the problem. ‘I believed there was discrimination against me as a Christian per se, so I specifically sought clarification of whether they wanted to remove Christian symbols from sight,’ she says. ‘But I was told I could not because it could still injure a patient.’ Her bosses argued that the chain in particular was a health and safety risk because confused or violent patients could grab and yank it, potentially throttling her or injuring themselves. Mr Eustice scoured jewellery shops in the city for a solution and found a chain with a magnetic clasp which separated under the slightest pressure. But while this may have solved the grabbing issue, managers then argued the cross and chain could scratch and possibly infect vulner-able patients if Mrs Chaplin was engaged in close-up clinical care.

Unfortunately, she soon found that few men came into the jewellery shop; it was patronized by women who fantasized about having the “real thing” but settled for “cheap and cheerful.” Once she took on the duty of dressing the window, she noticed subtle changes. She suddenly had lots of male admirers but she was never sure whether their interest was genuine or whether they thought they could get cut-price jewellery or special prices from her.

I can’t even remember, it was so long ago. I do remember doing work experience in I think year 10, in two jewellery shops. One of the stores did a lot of custom work and stringing repairs, which I got to work on. I loved looking at all the loose gemstones, like a pirate’s treasure!

Man commits robbery during trial recess
? Rex Features A man on trial for robbery has stunned police officers by committing another crime during his lunch break from court proceedings. Mark Burgen allegedly entered Walton’s Antique Jewellery in Franklin, Tennessee and proceeded to steal around $30,000 (£19,300) worth of items. Burgen was then approached by a member of staff, to whom he handed a Rolex watch before fleeing the shop. He then returned to court where he was standing trial for a robbery committed in 2009, but stashed his loot outside beforehand. “This is one of those compelling stories that leaves you scratching your head, as you’re walking away asking yourself, ‘Did that really just happen?’ police sergeant Charles Warner told MSN News. “Just no common sense whatsoever is pretty much what it boils down to,” jewellery shop employee Julie Walton added. Police officers apprehended Burgen mere minutes after he was found guilty for robbery

Today May 16, 2010 is the third day of the Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month and is observed as Akshay Tritiya also known as Akha Trij or Akha Teej. The word Akshaya means ‘that which never diminishes’ and the day is ideal for beginning new ventures as it is believed that all investments on this day appreciates. The day is also ideal for performing charity and auspicious deeds. But sadly the day has been converted into a Hindu Gold Rush day by smart jewellery shop owners and their marketing glitz is being copied by real estate mangers and other sellers. A little felted brooch
I finished another little felted brooch today. The image of the two vintage girls posing as angels were irresistible and I had to make something with it. I attached a little silver locked so the new owner could personalize it. I added some lavender buds between the layers for a sweet surprise. Just squeeze and enjoy the relaxing scent. I spent the morning shopping with mom. Part of her Christmas gift was a clothing shopping spree. She lost over 30 pounds during her surgery ordeal. Her clothes hung on her like rags. Now she is looking and feeling really spiffy. After a quick lunch we headed home with the sun shining brightly and smiles on our faces. Tomorrow I finish the rental painting then have a break for a week before starting the next. After painting is finished all my attention will be focused on an exciting project for crazy quilters to be released in the spring…no, it isn’t a book just yet

Guest Post: ‘Let’s Talk Over Tea’ Brooch by Lizette from Creativity Lizette
Greetings Paper Sparrow friends! It’s me again Lizette from Creativity Lizette with another fun tutorial. When you think of tea parties, what comes to mind? For me, it’s the Alice in Wonderland tea party scene. For those who love tea, I made a D.I.Y. Let’s talk over Tea brooch with steam coming out of it! So, grab your tea and let’s begin! Supplies: teacup stamp, Speedball Oil-Based Block Printing Ink/fabric paint, 26 Ga. wire (thin wire), scissors, thread (light brown for the tea and another color to match your fabric), needle, felt, pencil, pen, pin-back, plastic bag or stuffing. Sip 1: Stamp teacup onto fabric. Note: I carved my stamp out of linoleum. Sip 2: Shape wire to look like steam. Wrap tip of wire around a pen to get a curved end. Use a single piece of long wire to create steam; this will make the next step easier. Sip 3: Position steam on opening of teacup and sew it on with brown colored thread. 3 strands of thread. Sip 4:

Sizzix Fresh Vintage Blog Hop: DIY Flower Brooch
Sizzix has always made me so happy. Fifteen years years ago, I was a student aid using the Ellison machine to cut letters for the bulletin board. Eight years later I got the original Sizzix machine—the red one with the handle that went up and down. And just this year I got the Big Shot! Rolling in style, right here! Many thanks to sweet Eileen Hull who asked if I wanted to do the Fresh Blog hop. I was thrilled! For my Fall Poppy brooch, I used the Sizzix #9 Flower die. This die punches three different flower shapes that you can stack or use alone. It’s pretty much a party when you cut your fabric. If you want to make your own Fall Poppy brooch, you will need: fabric, buttons, Katiedids, Mod Podge, bicone Swarovski crystals 4mm, and of course the #9 Flower die. Cut four different fabrics into flowers–I ran the die through twice per pattern for a total of eight passes (24 flowers) and yes I had a few extras (yay!). Coat each flower front and back with Mod Podge.

Brooch Collection #2
As promised, the second part of my brooch collection :) . My two wonderful Made by White brooches (not enough, need more ;) ) and a tiny Hema toadstool. On the left another old lady brooch from my mom (yikes I steel a lot of things from her ;) ), and two thrifted rose brooches. On the right a thrifted purple horse (looks a little like a Dala Horse, which I love!), a bow brooch that belonged to my grandma and the brooch with the purple/green stones is my oldest possession and belonged to my great-grandmother. The puzzle piece deer and swans are from Lisa Manuels. I bought the little folklore deer brooch at the ‘Sprookjeskamer’ (fairytaleshop) and how could I forget ‘Women like simple things… ;) ’ which is also thrifted. The entire lot! I hope you enjoyed the peek in my brooch collection. Can I take a peek at yours sometime :) ? ? Nikk

simple diy flower hair brooch
Wearing; Vintage floral romper, TopShop heart tights, frye engineer boots, vintage belt, diy flower hair brooch The diy flower hair brooch is almost too simple to call a diy but its still always a killer for spring time; Whenever I see somewhere silk flowers I buy them (I found these in fabric stores).. Because I like to play around with them I never glue them to getter or attach them in a way that I won’t be able to re-use them… Here I just picked a few I liked and twisted them together and pinned them in my hair using regular hairpins and clips. btw. Yes my hair tips are still Lilac (can’t really see it in the grayish photos though), the color fades out really fast so I have to redo it like twice a week :/ xox
